12/8-12/12

Language Arts- Students will be finishing the novel My Brother Sam Is Dead next week. Their exam over the novel will be next Thursday, December 11th. A book report will be assigned the following week. Most work will be completed in class. I have been checking chapter questions in their novel packets. Please check grades to see if your child has been showing the chapter questions to me. Also, I am grading short stories that were turned in back in November. They are taking quite some time, but I'm making progress. Thank you for your patience.

Science- Monday or Tuesday we will be having Chapter 21 test over bones, muscles, and skin.

Math- Friday is a "stretching and shrinking" unit test.

Social Studies- The constitution preamble recitation is due Monday, December 8th. We will be discussion teen court, choosing jobs for the mock trial, and finishing our constitution handbook.

**There will be a letter coming home next week concerning our end of the quarter reward day.

11/17-11/21

Social Studies- Continuing our work on the constitution. There will be a test on the constitution unit this week.

Math- Continuing work on "stretching and shrinking unit". Students have a notes packet, which will be due Tuesday, November 18th. Math Mate due Friday, November 21st.

Science- The assigned bone test will be given Monday, November 17th. Chapter 21 Vocabulary test will be Tuesday, December 2nd.

Language Arts- Continue novel unit. Reading will be done in class, but students need to complete chapter questions at home. If your student says he/she completed the chapter questions in class, please ask him/her to bring home his/her packet and show you. Our novel is My Brother Sam Is Dead in connection with their Social Studies unit over the American Revolution. Packets have been leveled with questions that vary in difficulty to meet the needs of each student.

1110-11/14

Science- Students will be assigned chapter 21 vocabulary words on Friday, November 7th. The date of the vocabulary test will be posted on the next blog entry this Thursday. We will begin our anatomy unit starting on the 7th of November. The first chapter dealing with anatomy will be bones and muscular system.

Math- New unit "stretching and shrinking". Math Mate due Friday.

Language Arts- Expository writing practice Monday through Wednesday. We will be starting a novel unit next Wednesday. We had a big assignment due this past Thursday (11/6...see previous blog entry). Some students did not choose to turn in the assignment, and a Saturday school letter will be sent home to inform you if this was your child. Thank you for your support!

Social Studies- Starting unit on the Constitution. The students will need to memorize the preamble...due date to be announced in class next week. There will be a project and a test over the constitution. Due dates will be posted later.

11/3-11/7

Science- Students are finishing up their nutrition presentations. These projects are worth 300 points and these grades should be updated by the end of this week. Students have had four days in class to work on their projects before they presented.

Language Arts- This is BIG WEEK! We will be going to the computer lab to finish typing our Snow White re-telling stories on Monday and Tuesday. The final story (pasted on our construction paper book), rough draft, and peer revision is due THURSDAY. This is a huge grade. Please be sure to turn in this assignments on time. All assignments late will be subject to our late policy. Students will also have a Short Story exam on Wednesday of next week. We have been working on the elements of short stories in class the past two weeks, so with a little studying, they should do well. Most of the Snow White story has also been written in class.

Social Studies-For Social Studies, students will have their Revolutionary War test on Friday, 11/7. It is a no-note test. There will be daily spelling activities with a spelling test on Thursday, 11/6.

Math- Mr. Thompson was absent Thursday at a conference. He will update Monday.

10/27-10/31

Science- Group presentations begin next week. Be sure your student is ready to present their info. They are aware of the day they present, and need to be here on that day.

Social Studies- Declaration of Independence reciting due Monday. We will be finishing the Revolutionary War notes. Unit test on Monday, November 3rd.

Math- Math Mate due on Friday. Continue work on surface area and volume of 3 dimensional shapes!

Language Arts- Continue Short Story unit. Students will be working on a Snow White retelling story, which will be assigned tomorrow. Students must complete outline by Monday. Drafting will be done mainly in class, but depending on how far students get, they may need to finish drafting and revision at home. Rough Draft due next Thursday, October 30th. We will be traveling to the computer lab to type finals. This is a BIG grade! Please be sure your student has completed his/her draft by Thursday.

10/20-10/24

Hi Parents! I know a lot of you were just introduced to our blog at parent/teacher conferences. We hope you log on weekly to check assignments. The blog is updated every Thursday, but due to conferences, our team meeting was rescheduled. This is only the second time in two years that our blog has ever been delayed, so please know that we strive to be punctual with updates!

Science- Students will be working in their groups for the assigned nutrition project this week. Presentations begin next week.

Math- Math mates due Friday. Group 1 with miss Williams – surface area and volume of cylinders and spheres. Group 2 Mr Thompson – surface area and volume of rectangular prisms and cylinders. Quiz make – up day is Thursday at lunch.

Social Studies- Students are required to complete project #1 for their Revolutionary War Assignment Sheet by this Friday, 10/24. Their Declaration Of Independence preamble is due Monday, 10/27. Any project turned in early will receive extra credit. We will continue and finish notes for this unit with the unit test hopefully at the end of next week. More to come on the due date. There will be daily spelling assignments from now till the end of the quarter, with a different type of spelling test at the end of each week. Ask your student what they are re-learning about how to know how to spell different words using different spelling rules.

Language Arts- Word Wisdom (Money Mistakes) due Thursday! We are continuing our work on our short story unit, and will be completing many of the short story worksheets in class. Your student needs to bring his/her short story packet each day.

10/13-10/17

Parent/Teacher Conference Notes Have Been Sent Home! If you have not received one, please contact your child's homeroom teacher as soon as possible.

Science- Chapter 3 Vocabulary Test Monday. We will be preparing this week for our Chapter 3 Test. Hopefully, we will take the test prior to our long weekend. Be sure your child is studying!

Math- No MathMate this week! Students are continuing work in their Filling And Wrapping Textbook. There will be a quiz on Wednesday.

Language Arts- Daily Sentence Styling Week 5 due Monday. We will be working on the paragraph in class, and turning in the paragraph that same day. Students are continuing to work in their Short Story packets. Most activities are completed in class. Any further homework will be announced.

Social Studies- Students will be memorizing the Declaration of Independence Preamble. They must recite it to me by October 27th. They must also complete their Revolutionary War project by October 21st.

9/28-10/4

Sorry this was not updated last Friday! We generally will post the Friday before what assignments students have the upcoming week. However, this past week meetings seemed to interfere with our team meeting where we update. We'll be consistent about this, and appreciate your patience this week.

Social Studies-We are discussing the upcoming election and looking at all that a president does in the course of his job. The students are to be working on their volunteer project, due 10/6, and an election project of either a letter of support to their chosen Presidential candidate or a speech that touts their candidate’s ability to be President of the United States, which his due 10/3.

Math-We are working on area of circles, triangles and rectangles and perimeter of triangles and rectangles as well as the circumference of a circle.

L.A.- Word Wisdom due this Thursday! We are continuing our work on the organization of paragraphs. Students are writing and revising paragraphs in class. This will be collected for a grade.

Science- Chapter 2 Test this Friday. W ewill be reviewing for the test this week. We will also be doing our Cheek Cell Lab this Thursday.

9/22-9/26

Social Studies- Pay It Forward Project. We will watching the movie, and students will be assigned an outside "volunteer" project. Due date be announced next week.

Science- Chapter 2 Vocabulary Test this Friday. We will begin discussing microbiology and organelles of the cell.

Language Arts- Words Wisdom due Wednesday! Continuing our study of our writing program. We will be writing paragraphs and essays in class.

Math- MathMate due Friday. We will be reviewing and taking the test Thursday.

9/15-9/19

Math- Students will be working on their Math Mate due Friday. They will be continuing work with Investigation 4, from their book. Test over Variables and Patterns on Tuesday, September 23rd.

Science- Chapter 2 Vocabulary Words- assigned Tuesday. The tentative test over the words will be on September, 25th. We are beginning our virus discussion this week.

Social Studies- Spelling due Friday! We are discussing the settling of the 13 original colonies.


Language Arts- Daily Sentence Styling paragraph due today in class. Students will begin working on a writing curriculum.

9/8-9/11

Science- Students will be finishing up the scientific method with a Bubble Gum Lab. We will begin Chapter 2. Chapter 2 vocabulary words will be assigned towards the end of this week, or the beginning of next week.

Social Studies- Students will be working on research information for their colony handbill. this needs to be turned in next Monday 9/15.

Math- MathMate due Thursday. Continue Variables and Patterns book (sections 3.3-4.2)

Language Arts- Word Wisdom due Wednesday. Figurative Language Quiz tomorrow!

9/2-9/5

L.A.- Students are finishing their lighthouse poetry and projects. Final projects and poems due Friday, September 5th. We will be going to the library Thursday, September 4th to type poetry.

Science- We will have a Chapter 1 Vocabulary Test on Wednesday, September 3rd! We will begin studying spontaneous generation and the theory of bio genesis following the exam.

Social Studies- Native American Projects are due tomorrow. The students have to do two of the projects I gave them choices from.

Math- Still working in our book variables and patterns and this is the first week math mates will be sent home. Math mates will be due on Friday.

8/18/08-8/22/08

Math- On Thursday of this week, students will be receiving their variables and patterns textbook. Thurday and Friday will be the first two days in this book.

Science- At the end of this week, students will be assigned Chapter 1 vocabulary words. The test over these words will be Tuesday, September 2nd.

Social Studies- Students will be completing a personal time line, and doing a social studies book scavenger hunt. Students will also be mapping states and capitals, as well as longitude and latitude lines. This will all be completed in class.

Language Arts- Students will be receiving an assignment sheet for their lighthouse unit this Wednesday, as well as a parent reading letter. Please read over the lighthouse assignment sheet, as this will explain the requirements for completion of this project.

**Students need to turn their signed team letter in this Friday! Please return to homeroom teacher. Parents may keep letter portion.

WELCOME!

Welcome to the 7th All Stars team! We are thrilled to have this opportunity to communicate our weekly classroom activities and reminders through our blog. We hope you find this tool useful, as each core class will be listing what that core will be focusing on for the week. Due dates will be listed when available.

The First Week- We will be introducing students to classroom rules, expectations, and covering procedures pertinent to the subject. We hope to get to know each one of your students, and begin forming strong, positive relationships with your child. You will be receiving a letter for the team outlining team and school policies. You and your student will need to sign and return the bottom portion of the second page by Friday, August 22nd. The rest is yours to keep as a reference!
